Territorial Assembly elections were held in Ubangi-Shari on 31 March 1957. The first and second college system for giving separate seats to Europeans and Africans was scrapped, and all 50 seats elected by universal suffrage.

Representative Council elections were held for the first time in Ubangi-Shari on 15 December 1946.Parliament of the Central African Republic Juan Fandos-Rius The result was a victory for the Ubangian Economic and Social Action list led by Barthélemy Boganda, which won all 15 seats in the second college (for Africans), whilst the Chamber of Commerce List won all 10 seats in the first college.

A referendum on the new constitution of France was held in Ubangi-Shari on 28 September 1958 as part of a wider referendum held across the French Union. The new constitution would see the country become part of the new French Community if accepted, or result in independence if rejected.

Ubangi-Shari

Ubangi-Shari (French: Oubangui-Chari) was a French colony in central Africa, a part of French Equatorial Africa.

It was named after the Ubangi and Chari rivers along which it was colonised. It was established on 29 December 1903, from the Upper Ubangi (Haut-Oubangui) and Upper Shari (Haut-Chari) territories of the French Congo; renamed the Central African Republic (CAR) on 1 December 1958; and received independence on 13 August 1960.
